Our room was buttercup yellow, with flowers dancing on the walls. I thought that was such a very good description of how their room looks. I can see it perfectly.
The thing that interested me was the part when her mom said to stay up late so her and her husband live a long life.It interested me because its cool to see how they do there tradition.
I think what was interesting to me in chapter 2 was the Hong Bao envelopes. (Read carefully to discover how Grace Lin explains what Hong Bao are.) They sound pretty and I like that they are filled with $$$$! This whole idea of getting rich is interesting. It seems like Pacy is the type to save her money.
I also thought it was interesting that kids NEED to stay up late to give their parents long lives! That's a neat twist! Too bad for Pacy and her sisters that it is a school night!
I would be worried too, though, like Pacy about my parents not getting a long enough life. In my culture, it reminds me of that saying, "step on a crack and you'll break your mama's back." I avoided cracks for a long time.
Bobby, That was my favorite description in chapter 3 too. It kind of reminded me of my room as a child. My room was yellow gingham (checked) wallpaper. I didn't have flowers dancing on my walls, but it was so bright that it seemed like sunlight was always dancing in my room. This helped me to really connect with Pacy and Lissy's room. I could make a clearer picture in my head.
Jack, I though the part about the Hong Bao envelopes was interesting too. I learned a lot about the Chinese culture from reading this book too. Also, GREAT descriptive language and prediction!
Elijah and Bobby, I'm glad you figured out your questions.
Bailey, see if you can find the answer to your question. What ARE those red envelopes about?
I think this book is a kind of cool because I have always been wanting to learn about the Chinese New Year. The most interesting thing I have learned is the stuff they are eating is odd to us so it is cool to see what type of food they eat to celebrate.
I would die for 1 of those bags. I think they are really cool. I wonder what designs they have on them. I bet dogs since it is the year of the dog. Also why are they red. Why not blue or any other color? Why just 10$? WHy not more? Why does Lissy get more money just because she is older? I am older than my brother but i don`t get treated any better than he does. Why does she name her daughter ki-ki too isn`t that kind of weird to name your daughter KI-KI?
Me to. I thought those people just had a regular party and just said happpy New year to each other. But I never would of guessed that they get money in envelopes.
You seem to have alot of wonders and questions about this book. But you might find most [not all] of the questions if you go deeper in the book to like page 117. Oh yeah I have a older sister and she is 16 and she gets treated the same way I do. Good thing.
That'd be so cool. Staying up all night. Not going to school the next day. And you might not even know it but you're helping your mom and dad to stay alive and have a longer live. That's the life.
What I liked about this chapter was that her mom said she was a good student. But she kept going to sleep in class. So how could she of been good student.
I like this book because I am a Asian and i know lots of stuff about Chinese also because the author uses descriptive words. The author uses words that I don't know about but I know now because I ask what is this word then I know the word so I don't have to worry about it again if I see the word again while I am reading! I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
In page 19 Grace's friend's hair was as brown as bark on a tree. I think that had a very good detail. If only Grace Lin gave more details I would know what she is talking about. And picture in my mind what is happening in the story.

there parents don't have
a long life.

Bobby,

"My eyelids felt as heavy as sacks of rice." is what i think is the most discriptive of them all.
Bailey I think your best talent is reading I see u read all the time!
Tren
Bailey,
Thats rude what you said to bobby
A prediction that I have is that I think that Grace will find her talent
because then it won"t have a happy ending.

Dear Baily

Tren
I agree with her about the bunk bed
thing but I sleep on top and I am scared I will fall on my sister.
I would die for 1 of those bags. I think they are really cool. I wonder what designs they have on them. I bet dogs since it is the year of the dog. Also why are they red. Trenner,
Hilarious. But what are you going to do throw me in jail. Start a riot.LOL
Sion,
Why won't it have a happy ending if the girl finds her talent. Is her talent something bad that she could blow up China?
Bobby
Jack,
Me to. I thought those people just had a regular party and just said happpy New year to each other. But I never would of guessed that they get money in envelopes.
Bailey,

Bobby
Hayden,
If I had a bunk bed I wouldn't be afraid to fall on my sister. It would be funny though.
Bobby
Jack,
I know how heavy a sack of rice is. And if that's their eyes. I'll just leave it at it must of been really hard to keep their eyelids open. Creepy.
Bobby
Sion,
That'd be so cool. Staying up all night. Not going to school the next day. And you might not even know it but you're helping your mom and dad to stay alive and have a longer live. That's the life.
Bobby
Bobby,
Ya if they had a sack of rice on there head they would
fall over
Dear Bobby I said that if she doesn"t
find her talent the it wouldn"t have a happy ending
U would die for one of the red bags Bailey? U wouldn't get 1 of those bags if u were dead. Duh!
Tren
bobby,
It would be cool to not go to school at all! But 1 problem.....REPORT CARDS!
Dear Jack
I wonder who started the bag with money in it.
Bailey,
You know what. You can get home schooled and doze off.
Bobby
Hayden,
that stuff that there eating is very interesting
dear jack
how is it posibale for her eyelids
to be as heavy as a bole of rice.
What I liked about this chapter was that her mom said she was a good student. But she kept going to sleep in class. So how could she of been good student.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
Sion,
Ya it is interesting that if they stay up later that there parents live longer
who started the money bag thing?
Bailey,
You're on the wrong comment I'm pretty sure.
Bobby
A part of discriptive laguage for me was the part when her mom said that the sun looked like an egg yolk frying in the sky.
By: Sion
Bailey,
I can tell you really like $$$$$$$$
wow I could never fall asleep standing up.
In page 19 Grace's friend's hair was as brown as bark on a tree. I think that had a very good detail. If only Grace Lin gave more details I would know what she is talking about. And picture in my mind what is happening in the story.
Tren
Trenner,
You know what LoL. Now throw me in jail.
Bobby
Sion,
Hi.
Bobby
Bailey,
I think that you've made your point that you like money. Alot.
Bobby
Ms. Parent,
There's another one of those e-mails again that you deleted.
Bobby
Bailey,
I agree with Tren. If you got one Hang-Bao special every day. You be as rich as you could be.
Bobby
Jack,
Your prediction was right. She did fall asleep in the very long assembly.
Bobby
Bailey,
I don't know. But we do get New years, and cool parties.
Bobby
Elijah,
That's very interesting. If their kids don't stay up late their parents don't have a long life. And again. Awkward.
